ADOP Prepare Phase Failure in EBS R12.2 (ORA-20008 Solution)

Issue in Oracle EBS R12.2 Online Patching – ORA-20008

While working on my first Oracle E-Business Suite R12.2 upgrade, I encountered an interesting issue during online patching. I’m documenting this here so it can help others who face the same problem during early R12.2 upgrade phases.

Upgrade Scenario

  • Oracle E-Business Suite upgrade from R12.2.0 to R12.2.2

  • As part of the upgrade, AD and TXK patches for 12.2.2 were being applied

  • Online patching cycle was initiated using ADOP

During the patching cycle, while running:

adop phase=prepare

The process failed with the following error:

ERROR at line 1: ORA-20008: No Concurrent Manager is defined that can run concurrent program ADZDPATCH ORA-06512: at "APPS.AD_ZD_ADOP", line 240

Understanding the Issue

This error occurs when the ADZDPATCH concurrent program definition is missing or not properly loaded in the system.
Since ADOP relies heavily on concurrent managers, the absence of this definition causes the prepare phase to fail.

This is a known issue, especially in fresh or early-stage R12.2 environments.

Solution

Important Prerequisite

Ensure you are sourced on the RUN filesystem environment, not the PATCH filesystem.

Resolution Command

Run the following command to reload the concurrent program definition:

FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y UPLOAD \ $FND_TOP/patch/115/import/afcpprog.lct \ $AD_TOP/patch/115/import/US/adzdpatch.ldt \ CUSTOM_MODE=FORCE

Post Fix Validation

  • Re-run the adop phase=prepare

  • The phase should complete successfully

  • Online patching cycle can then proceed normally

Oracle Reference

This issue is documented by Oracle in the following support note:
